The AC Cobra is the ultimate iconic global sports car – a unique blend of raw American supercar muscle power and exquisite English classic styling and handling.
The story behind the AC Cobra is almost as long as the motor industry itself – AC Cars has been in continuous production since 1901, 115 years of heritage and innovation. Despite years of challenge and competition the AC brand has survived and is now on the threshold of a new era of success.
Re-energising the AC brand is the result of a multi-national team effort spread across every Continent. Unsurprisingly the power house is in the UK, home to AC’s famous pedigree (chronicled elsewhere), but the team includes members in many other parts of the world.
Interest and demand for AC’s iconic cars is undiminished and a pool of talents – commercial, marketing, technical and financial – has been brought together to continue the brand values. This is being done cautiously but there are exciting plans ahead – plans which will continue AC’s deserved global reputation and enable its range of products to be expanded.
The iconic AC Cobra is the backbone of all this, which has been borne out by the sale on August 19, 2016 of the first Cobra ever built by AC Cars. The car was built at the AC factory in Thames Ditton in the United Kingdom in 1962 and exported to the USA. It was sold for $13.75m at a Monterey auction. This is a record for a road legal British production car.
